Hello, and thank you for visiting my blog!

This is just a little space for me to share thoughts and opinions on topics I find interesting, whether they're current, cultural, or just things I feel like rambling about! Most of it centres around Japanese society and culture, which is something I’ve studied, written about, and been just generally obsessed over for years.

My goal is to bring some of those topics into a more tangible and relatable space, and use my own personal experiences and wider perceptions to make these events a bit more tangible. The world is vast, yet interconnected, and though Japan often seems a world away (both geographically and culturally), there are so many values and lessons we can learn. That might sound lofty (and maybe it is), but if even a few posts here spark curiosity or shift someone’s perspective a little, then I’ll call that a win!

That said, I’d be lying if I said this blog didn’t also serve a personal purpose. I've written a lot about Japan over the years, essays, assignments, half-finished thoughts buried in folders around my computer, it felt like a waste to leave it all tucked away! I want to use this space to revisit, revise, and publish that writing. More than anything, I want to build a solid body of work, something I can be proud of, and something that can stand as a portfolio as I move further into a writing-focused career. It's also a chance to push myself: to refine my voice, test new styles, and just... get better!

I'll be honest, the structure of the blog is quite loose! I have no plans to consistently pump out content on a daily or weekly basis. My idea was to write articles at my own pace, whenever something interesting pops up in the news, or whenever I feel the need to share an interest or a deep dive on some obscure aspect of Japanese culture. It could be a scathing take on Governmental policy, or how I think Gaki no tsukai is comedy gold, who knows!

The one thing that is certain is I want to make your time, the reader's, worthwhile. I don't want to just pump out SEO bait, AI slop listicals to boost my name in Google. I want there to be a takeaway, something to mull on, and maybe just bring some stuff that isn't widely available in English more to light. I've gotta use that translation degree somehow!
